Fall Fishing Report – Hilton Head Fishing Charters & What’s Biting This Season
There’s something special about fall in Hilton Head — cooler mornings, calmer tides, and that crisp Lowcountry air that makes a day on the water feel just right. I’m Captain Matt with Southern Roots Fishing Charters, and here’s your local look at what’s been biting lately and what to expect if you’re planning a trip soon.
Inshore Action: Redfish, Trout, and Flounder
This time of year, the inshore bite has been steady and fun. We’re catching plenty of red drum (or “redfish,” as locals call them) around oyster beds and grass lines, especially when the tide’s moving. The trout bite has been hot early in the morning — topwater plugs and shrimp under a cork have been producing solid numbers. Flounder are still hanging around too, giving anglers a nice variety on every trip.
If you’re booking a Hilton Head inshore fishing charter, fall is hard to beat. The weather’s great, the boat traffic is light, and the fish are hungry before winter sets in.
Family and First-Time Anglers
One of my favorite things about guiding is seeing families experience their first fishing charter in Hilton Head. Fall is perfect for that — calm winds, shorter trips, and steady bites. We’ve had plenty of families out lately catching redfish and trout, and even seeing dolphins right beside the boat.
If you’ve got little ones, our family fishing trips are laid-back, safe, and filled with smiles. Everything’s provided — rods, reels, bait, and licenses — so all you need to bring is your crew and a camera.
